Wednesday, October 19.
We are definitely slowing down in our tourist extravaganza. We got a very late start on Wednesday.
We went downtown to walk around a bit and eat a late lunch. We got a pan of cheese. With some iffy bread. I have to say, I am not loving the food as yet. I should just stick to beef and arteries be damned.

Campari and orange juice. This was delicious |

Cake and coffee. This might be a good time to mention the portion sizes here. I haven't seen portions this big since Disney World. Too much food! I am still eating this cake. |

After 'dinner' we wandered around a bit. We were in a new area, close to downtown but on the other side of where we'd been. And then we went to our Tango show. We did not get dinner. But our tickets included an appetizer and beverages. We asked for wine and the waiter left the whole bottle. then he said we can have whatever we want, more wine, beer, whatever! We are such lightweights, we didn't even finish the one bottle. We got some bubbly water (agua con gas).
We got there early so we got the closest table for the cheap seats (no dinner). At the front but a bit to the side. Great view. My pictures aren't great. Dark room, moving bodies, limited photography skills. Amy's are better so pop over to her blog if you want more tango action.

the live band was great |

This is my new boyfriend. I need someone to come down here and let him know. |
The show ended at 11:30. As we already discovered, in the city that eats until midnight, the Subte shuts down at 11 pm. So, we walked over the the Plaza de Mayo to find a cab. But we ended up at a bus stop just as the bus that would take us home pulled up. So, we jumped on. Amy, tech wiz, had the app for buses (?) so we could track where we were and we actually got off in the right spot.

Today we had to leave our little apartment in Palermo Alto. Partly because I didn't book it for the entire time we were in Buenos Aires, and partly because we needed to book into a hotel so we had somewhere to ditch our second bag when we go on the cruise.
Leaving means packing. Did I mention the ridiculously hard to pack items I bought at the Sunday market. Yup, those had to be packed. That was less a problem than the moving of the packed bags. First we had to get them downstairs.
I don't think I've mentioned the elevators in our building. They are old and tiny. And you have to open the door, and god forbid you start to open the inside gate before you get to your floor. The thing will just stop mid floor. Anyway, three trips down with our stuff.
Then I ventured into the street to find a cab and lured him back to our building. Where we filled his trunk with our stuff and more in the back seat. In our defense, they have little cars here.
Anyway, we get to the block where our hotel is and the entire road is ripped up and gated off with tiny narrow paths around the fencing. Nothing to do but sling on my pack, load up my other bags and hoof it for the last block. God finds ways to punish those who overpack.

Find Waldorf |
We arrived three hours before check in but they found us a room. We have three beds so we are using the middle one as bag storage.
My wifi in the Waldorf is terrible so I am going to hit the hay and finish up tomorrow. Another packing day.
Next day. I am sitting in the empty dining room because this is the 'best' place for Wifi.
Once we got ourselves settled in our new room, we headed out to revisit the San Telmo neighbourhood, this time without the market. The market completely takes over but we had heard the area was nice to visit. So we did. We walked there so it was a bit of a distance.
Lunch. Milenesa is a thing here. A big thing. Breaded meat. We decided to give it a try. Our waitress discouraged us from ordering two plates. Thank goodness, I couldn't even make it through my half.

We ordered plain, but got breakfast on top.
|
Then we just shopped and walked around. Some of the stores are super cool. I don't think I bought anything (Amy bought a purse and some little things) but I took some pictures.
This is an antique shop area.
And some sights from around San Telmo
After a few hours, we headed back to the hotel. We were bagged so we just ordered room service. Lasagna. not great. And then some left over cake from the day before. We have a little fridge in our room to keep our mini-bar-service beer cold. I don't want the beer, but I do want the cold, thank you very much.
We had a great day today but I am going to post this and start a new entry since I am falling behind (and the picture loading is so SLOOOOOOOOOOOW!
